Welcome to Senior Stick Fit:

Where we help seniors achieve their fitness and quality of life goals through the amazing benefits of Tai Chi-Kali-Sticks.We provide instruction in this ancient, martial-arts discipline through our classes which are tailor-made to meet the unique needs of older adults.

What is Stick Fit: Stick Fit is a fun and enjoyable fitness program which takes a holistic approach to improving one’s overall health (mind, body, and spirit).  Comprisesd of tried and proven techniques borrowed from ancient martial arts as well as modern martial science. It is quickly gaining recognition as the fitness program of the future for both young and old.

Senior Strong: A special element of the Stick Fit program has been designed specifically for adults who are 65 years of age and older. We call this 30 minute, easy to learn, low impact, moderately chllenging class, “Senior Strong.”  The exercise routines in this class can be done while standing or sitting making participation possible for everyone.

Chief Instructor

Chief Instructor James Birkle

James Birkle of Jasper, Indiana is 83 – year old living life to full. He is eager to share his wealth of Tai Chi knowledge and training with other seniors to help them lead the most active and full filling lives possible.

James is a Certified Black Belt in karate (6th Degree (2020)), American Kenpo (2nd Degree (2011)), and Jujitsu (1st Degree (2013)). Jim is also certified in Tai Chi and Qigong.,

James is a member of the U.S.A. Martial Arts Hall of Fame, MMAM Hall of Fame Award & Ambassador, Golden Gate Hall of Honors, Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Honors, Masters of the Martial Arts Hall of Fame, Independent Martial Arts Federation, and USA Sport Jujitsu Association. James has traveled to Geneva, Switzerland in 2013 as part of a team representing the United States. In Geneva he captured a Gold Medal in self-defense against competitors less than half his age of 72. He returned back there in 2018 as an honored guest.

Founded in 2012, Senior Stick Fit aims to help seniors attain better health while learning martial arts at the same time. Our company has focused on emphasizing the core foundations in Tai Chi. We believe Tai Chi Senior sessions must be handled carefully, and this can only be done with the expertise of the right instructor. Thankfully, our Chief instructor and co-founder has more 48 years plus, of experience under his belt. Over the years, his wisdom has become instrumental to the continuous growth of Senior Stick Fit. You can learn many things from our structured in Tai Chi training program. We will begin with fundamentals and gradually move on to techniques. Through a fine combination of ancient martial arts and modern insights, we can maximize your intended outcome. One of the best classes that we have is “Senior Strong.” This is a 30-minute class that’s easy to learn but difficult to master. You can do the routines while standing or sitting, thus making participation as easy as possible.

If you are worried about the costs of our training sessions, don’t be – we have calibrated our training prices in a way that matches our clients’ budgets. We are after real training value, and we want you to fully learn the best things that Tai Chi has to offer. In the future, we are willing to open up discounts and promos for seniors.

About us

James Birkle – now 83 – is proving daily that advance age does not rule out for you to lead active and fulfilled live, in one’s senior years. He is co-founder and chief instructor for the Tai Chi Stick Fit “Senior Strong” program based in Jasper, Indiana. An accomplished martial artist, with over 48 years, in Martial-Arts. He is a certified Black Belt in karate (Adonai Bushido 6th Degree Black Belt, (2020)), (2nd Degree Black Belt in American KENPO, (2011)), and  Jujitsu  (SHODAN – Black Belt-1st Degree, KODENKAN (2013)). James is  more active in Tai Chi and its associated mediation practice of QiGong, He has been a certified leader in Tai Chi since (2012)), also earning other awards & certifications. James completed ‘The High Understandings of Taiji (Tai Chi)’ training Course in the Nova Scotia (Canada), School of Kung Fu and Tai Chi, (2018)). Also that year he  received Certificate of Completion in Live Energy Regulation (QiGong)’ in Boston, Massachusetts. Jim continues to educate himself in his art and other arts, which complement his art while seeking to help others improve their health through this ancient authentic healing art.
